Xiaomi will not be able to use the "Mi Pad" brand in Europe because it resembles Apple's "iPad"

Practically since the Chinese firm Xiaomi began to enter the world of telephony, many of its models, they were clones of Apple modelsNot only the iPhone, but also the iPad, if we talk about the company's tablets.

But the inspiration was not only in the aesthetic section, but also we found it in the nomenclature of the device, a nomenclature that showed us how the Xiaomi tablet was baptized as "My iPad", a name that, depending on the language in which it is pronounced, offers us a lot of similarity to the "Apple iPad".

Apple has never bothered to launch lawsuits against the company as long as it didn't leave China, as the local government is very protectionist towards local companies, and most likely all he would do was spend the money on lawyers for nothing. But when the company began to sell its products outside of China, Apple had no choice but to put into operation the machinery so that the Asian firm did not use the name "My Pad" on its tablet.

One year after filing the complaint, the General Court of the European Union, has agreed with Apple, since it considers that consumers may be confused by the name used by Xiaomi, and finally buy a tablet from this company instead of an iPad, if it is the device you were looking for.

This ruling only confirms the decision made by the European Union Intellectual Property Office, in which the company was refused the registration of the name "My Pad" throughout Europe, for the same reason, since both are pronounced in a very similar way in both English-speaking countries and those in which English is not the official language.
