Xiaomi Mi 5 Extreme Edition, the top of the top of the range

Xiaomi Mi 5 Extreme Edition, the top of the top of the range

If you thought that the Chinese company Xiaomi was going to go on vacation after presenting its impressive and brand new flagship, you were very wrong. Although the Xiaomi Mi 5 is currently one of the most powerful, best quality and best priced smartphones on the market, these Chinese have decided that they could still go one step further.

And this is how, through a more than discreet silence, they have launched a special edition of their current flagship. This new terminal has received the name of Xiaomi Mi 5 Extreme Edition. Is even more powerful than its brother, it maintains a very contained price, and can already be acquired through the classic international sellers.

Xiaomi jumps from Mi 5 to Mi 5 Extreme Edition

Last February, the Chinese giant Xiaomi surprised us again with the update of its flagship smartphone. After the Mi 4, a luxury phone, came the Xiaomi Mi 5, a device that arrived more than a year after its predecessor, but whose features and price made the wait worth it.

Recall that this Mi 5 included as main features:

  • 5,1 ″ screen with Full HD resolution
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 2,1 GHz processor
  • Memory of 3 or 4 GB of RAM depending on the model
  • 16, 64 or 128 GB storage
  • 16 megapixel rear main camera with image stabilizer and dual flash
  • 6 megapixel front camera
  • 3.030 mAh battery that promises up to two days of autonomy
  • Fast charging system.
  • USB-C connector
  • Ultrasound fingerprint reader
  • Android 6.0 Marsmallow operating system under MIUI 7 layer

And its price, as always, very restrained, from € 300 for the 16GB model with 3GB of RAM, to € 400 for the 128 GB and 4GB of RAM model.

The "S" version of the Xiaomi Mi 5

Three months ago, we told you on Googlelizados that Xiaomi was thinking of launching an improved version, even more so, of its fabulous Mi 5. It would be an "S" version that, finally, is already in the company's catalog , although under a very special name.

We speak of Xiaomi Mi 5 Extreme Edition, a new terminal destined to become, together with its brother the Mi 5, one of the kings of high-end smartphones on the market.

This new device is much more powerful than the edition released last February but still, is able to maintain that relationship of good quality and moderate prices that characterizes the company so much. And how much we like the users.

Features of the new Mi 5 Extreme Edition

There has been no announcement, much less a special presentation event. The new Xiaomi Mi 5 Extreme Edition has simply been added to the company's catalog.

Regarding its exterior design, we will not find a difference with the original model. Remember that it is not a new smartphone in the strict sense, if not an improved or special version.

Xiaomi Mi5

In the photography and video section it does not present any novelty. As well keep the same screen, both in size and resolution.

As for the engine that runs the entire system, the same processor has been included, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip. The difference is that it has a clock speed 19% higher than original modell. Specifically, it has gone from 1,8 GHz to 215 GHz. Also the GPU has been improved from 510 MHz to 624 MHz.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 Extreme Edition too includes the same 3 GB of RAM, but upgraded from a 4 MHz LPDDR1333 module to another similar module at 1866 MHz. With all this, the device is much more powerful and faster, which will significantly improve multitasking functions.

In terms of autonomy, this is its "weak point". The Mi 5 already includes a good 3.030 mAh battery that has held up on the Extreme Edition. But that will be enough to last the whole day without complications.

Price and Availability

The Xiaomi Mi 5 Extreme Edition is now available on international portals that we all already know. Offered in four finishes (black, white, purple and gold) and its price is around $ 300. One last! The bad news is that you already know that at the change, these prices tend to rise. But still, it will be worth it.
