The folks at Spotify seem to have been very busy in recent weeks, looking not only to improve the app but also to boost the platform's profitability. Just over a week ago, rumors surfaced that the music streaming giant is exploring the possibility of creating a paid podcast subscription plan.
Last week, they introduced Stories, similar to those found on Snapchat, Facebook, WhatsApp… Today we woke up to even bigger news, as the company will soon add the ability to play songs stored on our device through the app.

Whether you pay for a Spotify subscription or enjoy the free, ad-free version, and you also have music stored on your device that isn't available on Spotify, this feature will allow you to completely forget about any other music player – a feature that many of these users will undoubtedly appreciate.
This new feature has been discovered, once again, by Jane Manchun Wong, who tweeted a screenshot of the option we'll need to enable if we want the files stored on our device to be displayed. If so, they will be added to our library.
This feature, which was already available on the now-defunct Google Play Music, was one of the platform's biggest drawbacks , as it forced users to use other music apps to enjoy songs downloaded to their devices. What remains unknown is whether Spotify will include advertising for non-subscribers while we listen to these songs, something that doesn't seem logical since we're not using their service, only the app.
Furthermore, it would be like shooting themselves in the foot , and users would quickly stop using it and go back to using their usual music player. Regarding the release date of this new feature, it's currently unknown, but it shouldn't be long before it reaches the market.
