Samsung Galaxy S, update via odin to firmware 2.3.6 and its CF Root

Samsung Galaxy S

Samsung Galaxy S

The tutorial that we present below, as update Samsung Galaxy S through Odin to the firmware 2.3.6 and its corresponding Root, it will serve, among other things, to install the ClockWorkmod Recovery in our GT-I9000, to later be able to install any Modified rom and optimized for our terminal.

The first thing we should check is whether our Samsung Galaxy S has access to mode DownloadTo do this and with the terminal completely off we will turn it on with the following combination of buttons, Vol minus + home button + Power button, we will press them at the same time and without releasing them until a screen like this appears:

Galaxy S Dowload mode

Access Download mode

If so, we will be ready to install the firmware JVU to Android 2.3.6 using a tool that will become basic and essential for our Android, the tool is none other than Odin all with Windows.

To exit Download mode all you have to do is hold down the power button for about ten secondss, or failing that, remove the battery for about five seconds and put it back in.

Preparing for installation

Keep in mind that by following the steps in this tutorial You must take full responsibility for what may happen to your device, If you stick to the instructions here, nothing bad should happen, but to think that every time we enter the internal system of our Galaxy there is a risk if we do not do things as indicated.

Also before starting this tutorial you must have the battery charged from your terminal to 100 by 100.

We must have all the drivers installed correctly in our PC, if you have installed Kies and you have successfully synchronized your terminal on some occasion, you will already have the necessary drivers installed, if not, go to the official website of Samsung and download the latest official version of this program and install it and synchronize your device.

The first thing we will do once we have verified that we have access to the mode Download, will be to download all the necessary files to carry out this tutorial successfully, for this we attach the links to both the Odin program for Windows and the official JVU Firmware and its corresponding CF Root.

Below I leave you the link to an essential file called Pit 512, which is essential for Flash using Odin of our Galaxy, usually comes within the tablet of the Firmware or of CF Root, but as I have sometimes found myself with the unpleasant surprise that this essential file was missing, I am attaching it individually so that you can keep it safe.

Once all the files are downloaded, we will unzip all in the place of our Pc that we like the most, I advise you to create one new folder on desktop and unzip them all inside it, all except the last file, since it is not compressed.

Now in this step we will go to the menu of our Galaxy S and activate the USB debugging, which is in the following path: Menu / Settings / Applications / Development.

Once all this is done we will be able to update through Odin of our Galaxy S to version 2.3.6 and install its corresponding CF Root.

Firmware installation method

First of all we will check that Choose is completely closed, for this we will open the Windows task manager and we will finalize any process that has to do with Choose, simply by looking at the names of all open processes, if any included the word Choose somewhere we would close it too.

Now we will run the program Odin and it will show us a window like this:

Odin main screen

Odin home screen

Next we will place the files in the Firmware folder as follows:

  • We will place the Pit file that we download last in the button of the same name, for this we will click on PIT and-navigate to the path where we save it previously.
  • In the PDA button we will place the Code file of the unzipped firmware
  • In the PHONE button we will place the MODEM file
  • In the CSC button we will select the file called CSC

We will check that the type boxes Checklist options are marked on the left Division, Auto Reboot y F. Reset Time.

Once everything is checked, we will turn off the Galaxy completely, and we will turn it on using the button combination mentioned above in Download mode, we will connect it to the PC and check on the Odin screen that it has recognized it correctly, for this it will show us the word COM followed by a number just in the upper left.

Now we just have to press the button Start and do not touch anything until the process ends and in the upper left part report the word Passport, It goes without saying that we should not, during this process disconnect the phone under any circumstances, as well as preventing our computer from entering or suspension, neither hibernation Nothing like that.

The process may take a few approximately five minutes. Until we see the word PASS not touch anything, once he gives us Passport we can now disconnect the phone from the computer and wait for it to restart.

CF Root installation method

With the previous step you will have the Galaxy updated correctly and fully functional to the version Android 2.3.6, in this next step, we will dedicate it through the same tool to install a Custom kernel with the Root and the ClockWorkmod Recovery installed.

After this process we will have the Galaxy ready to install any compatible Rom through the modified Recovery.

We will open Odin again, if we already had it open before, we would close it and reopen it, this time we will place the file inside the folder CF Root, in section PDA Odin, and we will not select any more files.

We will check that Re-Partition is not checked this time, the other two options should be selected, so that there is no doubt I am attaching a screenshot of how everything should be this time:

Odin configured with CF Root

This is how Odin should look on you

Once verified that everything is as in the attached image, we will turn off the Galaxy and we'll turn it back on Download mode, once turned on we will connect it to the PC and we will give the option Start from Odin's window.

This time the process will take less than one minute, as soon as Odin gives us back the word PassportWe can now disconnect our phone from the computer and wait for it to restart.

With this we will have Rotated, the Modified recovery and updated to version Android 2.3.6.

Stay tuned for new publications as I will be presenting you the best Roms for our device, both the Gingerbread like the most recent Ice Cream Sandwich to android 4.0.
