As we mentioned yesterday, there are few exceptions when it comes to rooting your phone. However, one of them is surely to enable DTS 3D Stereo sound on all versions of the LG V30.
There are always other excuses, such as being able to use a library on a Galaxy S9 to enable portrait mode on the front camera, although most users prefer to sacrifice camera quality and continue using banking apps ; apps that many have become accustomed to because of their ease of use and security.
The factory limited LG V30
This doesn't only happen with mobile phones; even in street vehicles we can see how some features are limited, which some savvy users then "hack" to access some premium functions; as happens with Renault.
But the case in question is the LG V30, a great smartphone that's software-limited , preventing it from using the hardware-integrated DTS 3D Stereo sound. For audiophiles, the ability to improve their phone's audio quality is surely reason enough to learn how to activate the factory-installed DTS sound on a phone that's anything but cheap.
Thanks to the developer community at XDA Developers, we can bypass the LG V30's limitations and access a significant improvement in audio quality. Chazzmatt is the developer who made it possible to use this extra sound on the V30.
How to activate DTS on LG V30
It should be remembered that the LG V30 update from November of last year mentioned the implementation of DTS 3D Stereo sound, although that new feature did not appear as its own function, so it could not be activated.
Thanks to Chazzmatt, here's the link to the XDA post, and the root access has been fixed for the LG V30 variants , including the V30+, V30S, and the original V30. However, for now, this activation only works for the US998 model. Let's explain how to do it.
- You need US998 V30 firmware with the November 2018 security patch.
- You have to have ROOT privileges.
- Install that editor from BuildProp:
- Now it's time to open the application and go to edit mode or «edit».
- Scroll to the very end where there will be empty lines where we are going to include the code.
- It's this entry:
ro.lge.globaleffect.dts = true
- We give to Save or «Save».
- We restart the mobile.
- We will have sound active DTS 3D Stereo on the LG V30.
Now, when you go to Settings > Sound , you should see a new category called "Sound Quality & Effects." That's where you'll find the new DTS option and settings for the Hi-Fi Quad DAC.
All we can do now is hope that LG eventually fixes this bug in the LG V30 and allows us to access DTS 3D Stereo without needing root privileges. It's currently the only way to access that extra audio quality for a phone that's otherwise quite good.
The LG V30 features a 1440p display, Qi wireless charging, a 3,5mm headphone jack , IP68 water and dust resistance, a rear camera with OIS and a 120-degree wide-angle lens, a fingerprint sensor, 64GB of internal storage, and a microSD card slot. Since the bootloader can be unlocked, rooting the device is quite simple, making it a phone that's sure to be a bargain on the used market.
So now you know, if you have an LG V30 and meet the requirements, you now know how to activate DTS 3D Stereo sound, which is limited by software and which you can access with ROOT to activate and thus increase the audio quality of your mobile device.
