Everything I like about the Xiaomi Mi6

Xiaomi Mi6 Review

In the attached video that I have left you at the beginning of the post, a video of about 49 minutes in length, I explain in great detail everything I like and dislike about this Xiaomi Mi6, a video in which I have included an index so that you can go directly to the aspect or functionality that you want to know about which, for me to this day it is still the best terminal of the moment in its price range range.

Designer

Xiaomi Mi6 Review

One of the strengths without a doubt of this Xiaomi Mi6 can be found in its design, a elegant design as well as modern but with a certain classic touch that suits you perfectly.

A terminal built in aluminum body in the color of the terminal itself, we have models in white, electric blue or in this case we are dealing with a glossy black that the truth is the sea of elegant, this together with its glass finish, makes the terminal feel really good in hand, giving us a grip and a hergonomy that, thanks to its measured dimensions and its slightly curved edges, feels very, very special in hand, giving us that feeling of a Premium terminal or top-of-the-range terminal from the first moment.

A design and dimensions that, in my opinion, is the perfect option for any user who tries to escape the latest trends and those huge Android terminals that more and more we are getting used to seeing in the hands of our friends and acquaintances.

MIUI customization layer

Xiaomi Mi6 Review

Although Androidsis and I personally are passionate about pure Android, we must recognize that Xiaomi is doing very well with its MIUI customization layer, a very, very invasive layer, so much so that it completely changes the appearance of Android in all its aspects, and Even though for a newcomer to MIUI, at first it may take a little time to adapt to this new way of interacting with the Android operating systemThe truth is, I have to tell you that, in just a couple of days you are going to take it by the hand and you are going to see all the potential hidden by what for me has been the best Android customization layer for a long time.

A layer that, when you already know it, is very intuitive and effective, and that It is designed to get the best performance out of the hardware and operating system from the terminals of the large Asian multinational.

Hardware and performance

Xiaomi Mi6 Review

As for Hardware and performance, you only need to see its 6 Gb of LPDDR4X RAM, Snapdragon 835 Octa Core processor at 2.45 Ghz with Adreno 540 GPU, to realize the tremendous power and fluidity that we are going to have in the Xiaomi Mi6.

A terminal capable of running any application or game no matter how heavy or system resources it requires, and in which multitasking is really spectacular, so much so that it becomes extremely fast to work with a lot of open applications.

Cameras

Xiaomi Mi6 Review

As for the cameras integrated in this Xiaomi Mi6 we have one of lime and one of sand, and it is that yes we cannot find any complaints regarding your cameras in photography mode since the resolution and the detail with which the captures are taken is frankly spectacular, very vivid and striking colors without saturating them, a portrait mode with background blur that seems to be taken with a reflex camera, etc, etc, The problem comes to us when comparing its video recording mode with other high-end terminals such as the LG G6 or the Samsung Galaxy S8The Xiaomi Mi6 is a few steps behind these terminals, still having such interesting options as 4K recording at 30 fps or Slow Motion recording at 120 fps in HD quality.

Sound

Xiaomi Mi6 Review

Sound is another of the strengths of this Xiaomi Mi6, and that is It has a Stereo sound system that offers us a feeling of quality and depth that is really very, very successful..

The multimedia sound of this Xiaomi Mi6 comes from the bottom of it, through the grilles located next to the USB TypeC connector, while it also comes to us through the front speaker that we usually use for phone calls. .

A sound that, as I said, is of high quality, although it has the downside that, depending on how we grab the terminal in landscape mode to watch movies or play games, we will easily shut off the sound outlet.

Connectivity

Xiaomi Mi6 Review

In the connectivity section, the terminal is really well served since we have Bluetooth 5.0 low consumption, Dual SIM Nano SIM, Wifi dual band 2.4 and 5 Ghz, GPS and aGPS GLONASS and BAIDOU, NFC, OTG, OTA, Wifi access pointEtc., etc.

We do everything we need to connect with quality to any Wi-Fi network, data network or even carry out data transfers between terminals or give network connection to other devices.

Autonomy

Xiaomi Mi6 Review

Another strong point in which Xiaomi does it perfectly is in the system resources and the power management that makes your MIUI 9 customization layer which in this case is almost its own operating system.

A terminal that with its 3350 mAh battery has been giving me numbers that are around six hours of active screen, which amounts to a day and a half for an average Android user without charging the terminal or for a hard-core user like me, one day reaching the end of it with approximately 4 hours of screen and 25% battery remaining.

Another point in favor in this aspect is found in its support for fast charging with Quick Charge 3.0 technology, and in which in this case if the terminal comes with a charger compatible with this type of fast charge.

A fast charge that, In just half an hour the terminal will charge us up to 50% and that it will perform a full charge in about an hour and a half.

Updates

Xiaomi Mi6 Review

Everyone knows that buying a Xiaomi brand terminal is synonymous with periodic monthly updates, security updates, implementation updates with bug fixes and improving aspects of the Android operating system and its own customization layer, and above all secured updates to new versions of Android.

Xiaomi Mi6 Review

In this case, in the two weeks of use that I have been giving it, the terminal that I got with Android 7.1.2, received an update via OTA, that is, Over The Air, which updated it to the latest version of Android 8.0 Oreo using MIUI version 9.2.3.0 Stable.

  • Fingerprint reader
  • Android 8.0

Everything I don't like about the Xiaomi Mi6

Xiaomi Mi6 Review

Cons

  • It does not have the B-20 800 Mhz band
  • Does not support MicroSD
  • Without 3.5mm Headphone Jack
  • <

Very good connectivity but without the B-20 800 Mhz band

Although the connectivity of this Xiaomi Mi6 is very good, here in Spain we can miss it in some parts of the territory, especially in rural areas, which do not count on the B-20 band or 800 Mhz band for 4G LTE connectivity.

In my particular case, and still living in an area considered rural, I have not noticed at all in the time that I have been using the lack of this 800 Mhz bandAlthough that does not mean that in other rural areas it has problems to grab the 4G LTE signal.

No possibility of expanding internal storage

Although for me it is more than enough to have an internal storage memory of 64 Gb since both the photos I take with my mobile and the music I listen to are synchronized in the cloud, the fact that not having support for expanding internal storage capacity using MicroSD memory cards I think that it can be a great handicap to take into account by many users.

Without 3.5mm jack for headphone jack

The same thing happens to me with the 3.5 mm Jack for the connection of headphones, if this is something that does not bother me or affect me personally since I always use headphones and Bluetooth speakers, I understand that the lack of this basic and essential connection for many users can be another negative aspect to take into account when deciding to buy this terminal.

Still Xiaomi a USB TypeC to 3.5 mm Jack converter adapter has been incorporated into the box as a solution to this handicap, not including the connection for a wired headphone jack.
