We're back again with a new release from OUKITEL . Another device from this very special manufacturer, whose other products we've already tested . Another foray into a sector they truly specialize in: rugged phones. We've had the chance to try the OUKITEL WP36 , a durable smartphone that lives up to all the rugged features.
A sector of the smartphone market that continues to grow, with a constant influx of new devices. OUKITEL continues to produce competitive devices in this sector thanks to their performance and the durability of their construction materials.
OUKITEL WP36, robust and powerful
As we mentioned, OUKITEL is a true expert in manufacturing these types of devices , and there are several rugged models in their catalog. We've been fortunate enough to test several of them, and they all share a large battery and exceptional shock resistance.
But if there's one area where rugged phones have evolved exponentially, it's in becoming increasingly similar, in terms of features, to any of the most capable conventional smartphones. Choosing a rugged smartphone no longer means giving up any of the features offered by conventional phones.
This is the OUKITEL WP36
Like other rugged phones, the WP36 has a rugged appearance and is significantly larger and heavier than a typical smartphone . Its entire body is made of plastic materials that will easily withstand impacts and the most extreme conditions.
Looking at the WP36 piece by piece, we see a generous 6.52-inch IPS LCD screen with HD+ resolution and a 20.5:9 aspect ratio on the front. It's perfectly protected by an octagonal bezel . The front-facing camera is located in the center of the top , behind a round hole-punch notch.
Looking at its underside , behind a thick rubber flap that closes tightly, we find the charging port, in USB type C format.
On its right side are the physical buttons . There's the power button and an elongated button for volume control . In addition, there's a fingerprint reader for unlocking the device and a hole in the bottom corner for attaching a lanyard. Super durable and secure—if that's what you're looking for, you'll soon be able to get the OUKITEL WP36 at the best price with a launch offer.
The top is free of buttons and ports. On its left side , behind another thick plastic tab that ensures a watertight seal, is the slot for the SIM and memory cards.
“Different” rear
The most striking physical feature of this device is found on its back. Also finished with plastic materials that mimic leather, it houses a curious panel that includes the three camera lenses and the flash , which we'll discuss later. But what really catches the eye is a huge 3.5W speaker with a maximum volume of 128dB.
OUKITEL WP36 Unboxing
As with every smartphone, it's time to look inside the box of our OUKITEL WP36 . After opening a typical OUKITEL device box with its distinctive logo and orange color, we find several items. We can say that nothing is superfluous, but we also don't find anything missing.
In addition to the obvious terminal, we have the power connector with a USB Type-C input , something that more and more manufacturers are omitting. We also have the charging cable itself , with USB-C connectors on both ends.
We also have the typical SIM card eject tool , which has a kind of "claw" on the other end to open the rubber tabs without damaging your nails. Finally, there's some warranty documentation and a quick start guide. If this is the rugged smartphone you've been looking for, you can get your OUKITEL WP36 with a great launch offer.
The OUKITEL WP36 screen
Now let's talk about the screen on this rugged phone , although there's nothing particularly remarkable about it. The OUKITEL WP36's screen meets minimum quality standards, and in terms of size, it boasts a generous 6.3 inches , a comfortable size, larger than some other rugged models we've tested. It's an IPS LCD screen with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection against bumps and scratches , and overall, it's of good quality.
It features a Full HD+ resolution of 720x1600 , acceptable for the screen size, but also improvable. With a pixel density of 269 pixels per inch and a 20.5:9 aspect ratio , it's comfortable for watching videos.
What's inside the OUKITEL WP36?
Looking at the power the OUKITEL WP36 offers, we're pleasantly surprised. For starters, the choice of processor was a wise one. We find a MediaTek MT8788, a chip also used by manufacturers like Motorola , Ulefone, Vivo, and ZTE, among others, with very satisfactory results.
The MediaTek MT8788 processor includes 4x Cortex-A73 and 4x Cortex-A53 cores, plus a processor speed of 2 GHz.
As for RAM , we're very pleased to find a generous 8 GB . This is quite uncommon in mid-range smartphones and, until now, has been exclusive to the most expensive models. Furthermore, it's perfectly complemented by 128 GB of internal storage , which can even be expanded up to 1 TB with a microSD card.
Given the qualities offered by the WP36, we can't forget that we're talking about a rugged smartphone. And besides having enough power to compete with any mid-range device , the OUKITEL WP36 boasts IP68 certification , something currently beyond the reach of the vast majority of conventional smartphones.
In terms of graphics, it features an ARM Mali-G72 MP3 GPU , capable of making the most of a screen that could have been slightly better. Security is rounded out by a fingerprint reader that works quickly and accurately, and is positioned optimally given the device's size. Power doesn't come at the expense of durability, as the new OUKITEL WP36 achieves.
Photography that raises the bar
Now it's time to talk about the camera. This is an area where OUKITEL has delivered good quality in the past. And in the case of the WP36, it continues to improve in both quantity and quality.
The main sensor is a Sony IMX135 , an ISOCELL type , with an f/2.2 aperture and up to 13 MP resolution . This sensor delivers excellent results in good lighting conditions, but also performs admirably in more challenging lighting. We can say that it raises the bar for photo quality in this type of phone.
The second sensor corresponds to the GalaxyCore GC02M1 macro camera . The resolution is 2MP and the aperture is f/2.4.
On the front, it features a selfie and video call camera that's more capable than what we usually find. Also, in keeping with the same approach, it uses a Samsung S5K5E8 sensor offering 5MP resolution and an f/2.2 aperture . In short, we consider partnering with Samsung to be a smart move, providing quality and reliability to a photography feature that certainly doesn't go unnoticed.
Photographs taken with the OUKITEL WP36
As we always do when we test a smartphone, we've included some sample photos . On paper, and considering the specifications, brand names, and numbers, the OUKITEL WP36 seemed poised to be one of the rugged phones with the best camera. Unfortunately, while the results aren't bad, they don't quite live up to expectations.
The first photo was taken outdoors on a sunny day with good light; the camera would have to be really bad not to get a good result. This isn't the case here, and as we can see, it's a good photo. The colors are well-differentiated, the shapes are well-defined , and the image is sharp.
Here we have a shot with worse lighting. It's clear how the image sharpness suffers . We can still see the different tones and colors, but there's some noise and a lack of definition.
In this photograph, taken at sunset against the light, the sensor performs exceptionally well. Faced with a challenging shot that would struggle with any camera, the WP36 manages to deliver truly acceptable definition and depth perception.
Finally, we took a photo in daylight, in the shade, with a streetlight. We see how the definition is somewhat deficient, although we can clearly appreciate the different textures.

OUKITEL WP36, powerful inside and robust outside
We've already analyzed everything this OUKITEL has to offer in terms of performance and photography in our daily use. But we're dealing with a manufacturer that specializes in rugged devices, and the WP36 is a prime example of that. As we've mentioned, it stands out for its high-strength plastic construction, with extra corner protection.
We offer up to three different durability certifications . The IP68 certification isn't just water resistance. In addition to withstanding splashes, it can be submerged in up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes without any damage . Ready to accompany you on any adventure, without fear of it getting damaged.
It also boasts IP69K certification , currently considered the highest level of protection available . The numbers and letters in each certification have specific meanings. The first, the 6, represents the level of protection against dust. The 9K is somewhat special, as the highest level of protection against liquids was previously rated at 8. This rating was established for products that, in addition to liquid protection, also withstand pressure washing and cleaning with high-temperature liquids.
The third certification is MIL-STD-810H , which is the highest distinction awarded by the United States military to products capable of withstanding the most extreme conditions of temperature, pressure, or shock without affecting the device's functionality. The WP36 can withstand temperatures between -45°C and 75°C.
In addition, it comes with a suite of pre-installed apps that can be useful for everyday use or in adverse circumstances. These include, for example, a compass , a beacon , a probe , a gradient tool, and an altimeter . It also includes accessories such as a magnifying glass, a level, and a protractor—a true Swiss Army knife.
Huge house brand battery
Another recognizable feature of OUKITEL's rugged smartphones is their battery . Something that continues to grow in both size and energy efficiency. The WP36 boasts a 10600 mAh battery . According to the manufacturer, this capacity will last up to 1400 hours on standby , or allow for up to 45 hours of uninterrupted music playback.
We can use our smartphone daily for up to a full week without needing to charge it . Furthermore, thanks to its reverse charging capability , we can use the OUKITEL WP36 as a power bank to charge other devices. We could charge a pair of wireless earbuds up to 27 times, for example. A battery that's more than enough to give away—you can buy the OUKITEL WP36 now with a super launch offer.
OUKITEL WP36, portable speaker
It's one of the most striking extras on the market . A smartphone with a built-in super speaker is something music lovers have always dreamed of. The WP36 is equipped with a rear speaker with 3.5W of power . Not only is it loud, but it also sounds really good at maximum volume without distortion.
It boasts impressive sound quality , enhancing the user experience thanks to its 8D dynamic surround sound technology . The sound reaches up to 128 dB, delivering crisp, clear audio with the nuances of a high-quality speaker.
Android 13.0 and customization layer
The WP36 runs Android 13.0 Pie with OUKITEL 's own custom skin . As we've mentioned in other reviews of devices from this company, fortunately, their customization layer is very minimal . It's practically limited to slightly reshaping the icons , sometimes giving them a more "metallic" look. At first glance, it doesn't look much more than a launcher on top of Android, but with a few tweaks.
En Androidsis We are firm defenders of pure Android. Using Android and improving it is legal, and good for all users. Customizing it is also common, but modifying something that works excellently as standard, in some cases impairs the fluidity of its operation, and this is a big mistake.
Pros and cons of the OUKITEL WP36
The OUKITEL WP36 has been a pleasant surprise . The improvements in the camera department are remarkable , and as always, it includes some extras that set it apart from other models on the market. These improvements are a clear example of evolution towards the needs and demands of the general public , so the result can only be good.
