OUKITEL K8 review

OUKITEL K8 front

A few days ago we were talking about a highly anticipated launch, the OVERHEAT K8. A smartphone about which we will tell you on this your website a launch promotion with significant discounts. We have been lucky enough to be able to test this device and then we will tell you in detail what we think.

As we know, OUKITEL is a firm with which we have already been able to work previously, testing other of their devices. And the impressions as a general rule have always been good. With the OUKITEL K8 we have to say that the firm continues to offer quality products, with high performance at very attractive prices.

The OUKITEL K8 arrives to raise the level of the mid-range

The OUKITEL K8 is a beautiful phone at first glance. With a sober but elegant design, which highlights a metallic frame finished in glitter in which is perfectly inserted a generous 6-inch diagonal screen. The 5 inches, even 5,5 or higher were left behind to make way for 6. We love large screens, that's why the OUKITEL K8, we already like it.

As we know, the mid-range of Android smartphones does not stop growing. And it does so at a dizzying pace. So much so that new terminals and new brands appear practically every day. This is why it is so extremely difficult to make a name for yourself among so much competition. OUKITEL has been working for a long time so that its terminals are recognized among so many possibilities available.

For a phone to stand out in this saturated range it is no longer enough to do just one thing well. That is, it is not worth just offering a cheap product. Nor is it valid that the product that is offered stands out in one aspect such as the battery, or the screen. Now, in order to attract attention, a smartphone must have good performance in practically all areas.

The OUKITEL K8 claims to be good at everything. Offering high-level performance in all respects in which the quality of a phone can be measured. That is why we wanted to test it thoroughly for a few days to see first-hand if all that glitters is gold.  So we go step by step telling what this smartphone offers, and what we thought. And now you can buy it at the best price No products found.

The OUKITEL K8 by parts

If we look at the OUKITEL K8 from the front, its enormous 6-inch screen with FHD + resolution. A size that we love for its aspect ratio 18:9, ideal to enjoy our favorite series, for example. We see very narrow frames around the edges, although not so much in its upper and lower part. We have a screen occupancy ratio very acceptable of a 77%.

At lower part we find, as usual, in the most central area, the loading port. In this case we find again with connector micro USB. It is also not very logical to find this type of connector in such a new smartphone. Some manufacturers are reluctant to upgrade to the USB Type C connector. On one side of the connector we find the speaker, and on the other side the microphone, no surprise or news.

OUKITEL K8 bottom

At the Right side the volume control cores, and just below the lock button and on / off.

OUKITEL K8 right side

In her left side only the SIM card slot, where we can also add a micro SD memory card, or another SIM card. If we look at the upper part we have the classic Connector headphone input, 3.5mm jack.

OUKITEL K8 top

All buttons and ports are located on the metal frame that surrounds the terminal. We see excellent finishes, and as there is a great job so that the insertion of the curved screen in the frame is imperceptible. The travel of the buttons, as well as the touch of the same, is comfortable.

At rear of the OUKITEL K8 we have one of lime and one of sand. The material With which they have decided to finish it seems not to be the most appropriate. Find plasticAlthough it is well treated so that the touch and grip are good, we did not like it. It seemed like a material already forgotten in terminals with high aspirations like those of this OUKITEL K8.

As a counterpoint to a plastic rear, we find other features that more than compensate for this poor choice. The OUKITEL K8 comes equipped with a dual camera offering 13 + 2 megapixels. It is located in the upper central part of the device and arranges the lenses vertically. On his right we find a double LED flash that offers power to illuminate any night photography we want to take.

OUKITEL K8 rear

Just below the lenses is the fingerprint reader. We also like the location, which is the most comfortable and ergonomic. Fingerprint reading is fast, and it works accurately by unlocking the device automatically. As we can see, a rear part with aspects that we do not like and with others that we love.

Box contents

Once again we take inventory of everything we find inside the box of every new device. The OUKITEL K8 is presented in a Glossy white square and flat case with the signature logo in the center in metallic gray lettering. Inside there are few news and some details of the signature.

OUKITEL K8 what's in the box

In addition to the terminal, which appears in the foreground, we have the typical connection cables for charging and data transfer. In this case we have usb micro, still OUKITEL has not decided on the most current USB Type C. We also have the connector for electrical current, fortunately in the European version.

And as a "detail" of the signature a Silicone sheath for the device. We say detail because although it is an essential accessory, very few manufacturers decide to give the buyer a gift. It fits like a glove and seems resistant, as well as being pleasant to the heel and enjoying a good grip.

Finally we find documentation relative to the Warranty of the product, and the classic Quick Start Guide which I think no one has ever read. Oh and the pin to remove the slot where the SIM card is inserted that can share space with a micro SD card.

OUKITEL K8, 6-inch full resolution

We've mentioned it several times already, we love big screens. In this OUKITEL K8 the 5 inches went down in history. Count on 6 inches on a smartphone a year ago it seemed crazy. It seemed that for a smartphone to have that screen we would have to have oversized phones, and fortunately we have seen that this is not the case.

And this is thanks to a good joint design work by all the brands that make up the market. We have seen how at the cost of “making the most of” the front panel of the devices, the new smartphones win on screen without having to win in size. Having more screen on the phone is no longer directly proportional to having to carry a large smartphone.

OUKITEL K8 display

The OUKITEL K8 has launched itself to conquer the public with a large 6-inch screen. But not only does it offer good size, this screen has much more. We are facing a IPS LCD screen with Full HD + resolutionIe 1080 x 2160 px. A capacitive screen rated with Very  High Density, 402 pixels per inch.

In addition, the OUKITEL K8 screen has 2.5D rounded glass termination, which, thanks to a good assembly job, fits perfectly with the metal frame. And according to the manufacturer it is scratch and shock resistant.

To put a small objection that is not a "hit", the OUKITEL K8 does not have notification LEDs. It may not be a notable absence. But we always say that it is a small detail that sometimes helps us to facilitate some tasks.

We look inside the OUKITEL K8

As we said at the beginning of the post, OUKITEL continues to prosper thanks to the manufacture of competent terminals in all its aspects. The OUKITEL K8 is without a doubt a balanced smartphone, and it measures up to practically every aspect. The power section is also well covered.

Inside the OUKITEL K8 we find a MediaTek processor, the MT6750T. A processor Octa-Core running at 1.5 GHz. A processor that firms such as Doogee, ZTE, Blackview or Cubot have also trusted, among many others. And in all cases offering a very high performance.

If we look at the RAM, We found that the OUKITEL K8 comes equipped with 4 GB. And it has a 64 GB internal memory, expandable by micro SD card. Enough power and capacity so that we do not miss any of them. And for the graphics, in the OUKITEL K8 they have decided on the ARM Mali T-860 MP2.

Android 8.0 Oreo very "clean"

At OUKITEL it seems that if they bet on offering a updated software. Although we have seen recently released terminals with the operating system based on outdated versions, this is not the case. The OUKITEL K8 has Android 8, and that is noticeable visually, and when we use the device for a while.

We also really liked finding a Virtually pure Android. Far from adding layers of customization that only slow down the device. The OUKITEL K8 flows wonderfully and we have not noticed overheats or hang any. Android the purer the better,

Good dual photo camera

OUKITEL K8 photo camera

It is time to talk about the photography section, and again it is time to speak well. Starting from the basis that we are facing a phone that in price is below 150 euros. Find one dual photo camera It is already a point that will differentiate it from the rest. It also adds an LED flash capable of illuminating the darkest scenes. And if it offers good resolution and we see that it behaves well in practically all situations, much better.

The OUKITEL K8 has CMOS type sensor that throws a 2.0 focal aperture. Entrusting the photography section to a consecrated manufacturer is synonymous with success. Thus, with the Sony IMX 135 sensor OUKITEL makes sure to more than cover the needs of any user.

If we attend to the resolution, we have 13 + 2 megapixels. Enough numbers to get quality shots with good definition and realistic colors. And of course, to be able to take the so famous and desired photos with bokeh effect.

Selfies are covered too. For the frontal camera we have a sensor 5 megapixels it performs wonderfully in good light conditions. In addition, this camera has with wide angle that will make us capture up to 180 degrees without the need for a selfie stick or extra accessories.

Here we see a photo backlight in which although it may not seem like it we have not applied any filter. In scenes where the sensor on other terminals is unable to even focus, the OUKITEL K8's camera  seamlessly captures silhouettes even with contrasting intensity in the tones

OUKITEL K8 photo backlight

In this shot, we see how the OUKITEL K8 at long distance it is also capable of capturing shapes and colors with good definition. Even enlarging the photograph we do not lose much quality. Certainly good results in practically all situations.

The battery, the weak point of the OUKITEL K8?

It is true that we love screens the bigger the better. But keep in mind that a large screen results in higher energy consumption. So that this is not a problem, the level of optimization achieved between all the components of the device plays a very important role.

We have already seen terminals with huge batteries that then do not give more than other conventional ones. And this is due to uncontrolled consumption that is exorbitant. How much does a smartphone with such a large screen need to last decently? At OUKITEL they have chosen 5000 mAh. Enough?

The manufacturer itself does not launch the bells to the flight by selling the motorcycle that it is a huge battery and that lasts a long time. In fact, in their advertising they title "Run All Day On One Charge". Alluding to the fact that it will last a full day on a single charge. Is just one full day on one charge enough? There will be those who think so, and others who do not.

As we have already seen, and even debated on social networks, the fact that a device has more or less battery directly affects the size and weight of the smarthone. We have seen very heavy terminals for the life of your batteries to stretch. The OVERHEAT K8 choose to offer a somewhat thinner terminal y lighter, but that guarantees the duration of a full day.

Security solutions

As we know, security on our devices is an issue that all firms work on. Some implementing technologies of dubious functionality. And others trying to improve, as far as possible, existing technologies. We consider better a good fingerprint reader that works properly than a ridiculously inaccurate face unlock.

We have little to say about this terminal in terms of security. As is usual with practically all mobile phones, the OUKITEL K8 has fingerprint reader. It is located in the rear area under the cameras, in a centered part, which is the most comfortable for the user. The reader always respond quickly, and normally get a correct reading.

As an addition, the OUKITEL K8 is compatible with facial recognition technology. The front camera is in charge of acting as a face scanner. It is an option that we can activate simply by accessing the settings. But after testing it, it has not been more comfortable than using the footprint. In addition to not being very "fine" on some occasions. Faced with a technology on which there is still much to be developed, we prefer to trust, for the moment, the fingerprint.

The sound, a great forgotten?

OUKITEL K8 bottom

We have been saying throughout the post that the OUKITEL K8 is a balanced smartphone in everything. That stands out for the good in practically all aspects, especially considering the price at which we can acquire it. In the external sound section we cannot say that it "limps" when compared to 99% of the competition.

But we can affirm that it is another smartphone that has just one speaker. Stereo sound seems relegated to a very distant past. And we have little hope that he will one day return. Knowing about the success of bluetooth speakers to listen to music from the phone. We are convinced that the firm that offers a smartphone with powerful and quality stereo sound will leave its mark on the market.

Another feature that differentiates the OUKITEL K8 is that the manufacturers have decided to keep the 3.5mm Jack connector. So we can use our usual headphones without the need for cables or adapters.

Pros and Cons of the OUKITEL K8

Pros

We love to see devices that have definitely outgrown 5 inches to all their decimals. A display of 6 inches sounds better. And after being able to test it for a few days, and thanks to a good use of the front panel, we have to say that we do not want anything smaller.

We have power to spare not only with the processor, it also adds, and a lot, to have 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of ROM, especially considering that we are talking about a smartphone that does not reach € 150.

The photography section also adds integers. Have a camera after which we find a manufacturer like Sony It is a guaranteed guarantee. And so we have been able to verify it in the results obtained with the photos that we have been able to take

Pros

  • 6 screen inches
  • Good RAM and storage
  • Sony dual photo camera

Cons

We didn't like finding anything plastic materials on the back. Although it is common for smartphones that move in its price range to use this type of material, in the OUKITEL K8 it is out of tune with the rest of the specifications.

The USB Type-C connector has been on the market long enough to be considered established. It is supposed to offer a faster connection, and has the advantage that the cables can be plugged up or down interchangeably. But OUKITEL, and some other firms have not yet taken the step of changing and continue to use the Micro USB.

Although we have had much heavier smartphones on our hands, the OUKITEL K8 is not entirely light. Its 198 grams compared to other terminals make it somewhat heavier than the average.

Cons

  • Plastic material on the back
  • Micro USB
  • High weight
