LG has always liked to be technologically ahead of its competitors. At the time it did so with the LG Optimus 2X, the first smartphone with a dual-core processor, later it was the LG Optimus 3D and now it is the turn of the L, a smartphone with a curved and flexible screen.

For this LG mounted a 6 inch POLED panel in a device with very interesting features. First we will leave you with the video review that we made in the last edition of the Mobile World Congress.

LG G Flex video analysis

LG G Flex design

As you can see in the video, the main attraction of the LG G Flex is its design. Its curved screen, which is also slightly flexible, is the main strength of the phone. And is that the LG G Flex withstands full flex to flat without your screen jumping into a thousand pieces.

With dimensions of 160,5 mm in height, 81.6 in length and only 7,8 mm in width, the device is quite manageable. Although at first glance it looks like a hulk, thanks to the curvature of the phone the grip of the LG G Flex is quite comfortable. And its 177 grams of weight helps a lot.

As with the LG G2, the Korean team has re-incorporated the power button and volume rocker on the back of the phone, something that at first is not very intuitive but you get used to it. And if not, by touching the screen twice, the phone will lock or unlock without problems.

Another very interesting point of this LG G Flex is the self-healing metallic paint coat that it incorporates in its rear housings. The typical rubbing of coins or small objects will no longer be a problem, rubbing the surface and generating heat will repair it. Although it has a limit of course, so do not be scratching the phone conscientiously or it will be marked forever.

Screen

lg g flex

The LG G Flex screen is made up of a 6-inch panel with POLED technology(plastic OLED) reaching a resolution of 720p, somewhat short for a high-end termial. In addition, its pixel density below 250 dpi does not help too much.

While it is true that it does not reach the quality of the IPS panels that the Seoul-based giant usually integrates in its high-end phones, the results are not bad at all. What's more screen curvature widens the viewing angle considerably.

LG G Flex Features

Samsung-Galaxy-Round-Bottom

LG's first curved screen smartphone beats thanks to a processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core at 2.2GHz of power that, together with its Adreno 330 processor and 2 GB of RAM memory, make the device flow like silk.

For a change, LG is still not betting on the memory expansion, a detail that I personally like rather little. Ok the LG G Flex comes with 32GB of internal storage, More than enough for any average user, but it shouldn't cost that much to incorporate a micro SD card slot.

Of course, to follow the direction of most manufacturers, LG's new curved phone uses micro SIM cards in addition to having LTE connectivity.

As for the battery, the LG G Flex integrates a 3.500 mAh battery that will allow us to use the phone for a day and a half with hardly any mess. A plus for the first flexible smartphone on the market.

Camera

2-10-UI-copy

The lens of the LG G Flex is the same as that of the LG G2, so we find a 13 megapixel sensor with f2.4 brightness although they have forgotten one of the strengths of the LG G2: its image stabilizer.

What does this translate to? If you take photos in a bright environment the result is great, with a balanced color gamut and excellent processing, but in low light conditions the photos lose a lot.

Software

This is another of the points that piss me off a bit about LG: its update policy. Today the LG Flex can already be updated to Android 4.4, but it comes standard with Android 4.2.2. Why the hell won't they release the phone with a newer version if Android KitKat was already available when it was introduced? We forgive them because the truth is that the Korean giant is doing things well, but in this respect they deserve a good slap on the wrist ...

An interesting detail of the LG G Flex is that we can take advantage of the six inches of its screen thanks to the ability to run multiple apps on split screen. It is a joy to be able to watch a YouTube video while surfing the internet.

In short, it is noted that LG has used the LG G Flex as a guinea pig, to calibrate the section of flexible screens. It falls a little short in terms of image quality for a high-end, but in general the result is more than satisfactory. If you are looking for a phone that sets you apart from the rest, the LG G Flex is available at a price of 799 euros.
