Huawei P40 series gets new 50MP AI camera mode via update

Huawei is releasing a new software update that adds a new 50MP AI camera functionality for your devices P40 series.

Currently the new firmware package is being offered only in China, and it does so under the build number EMUI 10.1.0.122. This, in addition to adding the typical performance improvements, bug fixes and some other influential changes in the stabilization of the system, adds a new 50 MP AI camera mode that improves the results of the photos taken with this function.

Just like GSMArena informs, the new mode captures multiple images for three seconds and then groups them together to obtain a resulting 50 megapixel full resolution image. Their goal is to bring the best of both worlds, matching the resolution of a normal Bayer sensor to the Quad-Bayer imager inside Huawei's P40s.

The results can be seen in the following photographs. The first is the result taken with the 50 MP AI camera mode, the others are the enlargements made. The results are remarkably marked and very good, without a doubt. Point for Huawei.

It is not known when this new version of EMUI will be offered for P40s from other regions. However, eIt may take several days and / or weeks before it crosses the Chinese wall to other regions. If so, it would be gradually being made available through an OTA. Our expectations are in favor of an early expansion of the firmware package, as it does improve the quality of photos captured with the 50 MP sensor that all three models that make up this family of flagship phones boast.

To recall, the Huawei P40 has the aforementioned 50 MP primary sensor along with an 8 MP telephoto shooter with f / 2.4 focal aperture, PDAF focus, OIS optical stabilization system and 3X optical zoom. The other lens that pairs them up is a 16 MP ultra-wide angle with f / 2.2 aperture.

The Pro version of this model, in addition to also having the 50 MP main shooter, makes use of a 12 MP periscope lens, a 40 MP ultra-wide angle and another TOF 3D sensor, all for a very powerful quad camera module. .

Finally, with respect to the Huawei P40 Pro +, which is the most advanced version of this family of high-performance phones, it boasts a 50 MP shooter, an 8 MP periscope, an 8 MP telephoto camera, an ultra-wide angle of 40 MP and again the TOF 3D sensor. The total is five rear cameras, these being responsible for placing it as one of the smartphones with the best photographic section of this year, on a par with mobiles such as the Galaxy S20 and others like it.
