Before anything else, and at the risk of you saying that I tend to label every ROM I present for the LG G2 as the best ROM available, I want you to take a little time to watch the video at the top of this article where I show you all the virtues of this sensational AOSP ROM that will update the LG G2 to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop . On another note, it's not uncommon for new, more polished and refined ROMs to be significantly better than their predecessors as they are released.
Next, besides explaining how to update the LG G2 to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop , that is, the very latest version of Android, I'm also going to explain the reasons why I consider this AICP ROM to be the best AOSP ROM for our international model LG G2 D802.

In my personal opinion, this ROM is the best ROM currently available for the LG G2 . However, as with all pure Android ROMs, the drawback is that we won't have LG's own applications, such as Quick View, Quick Remote, FM Radio, or even the camera app . Although, the native Google camera app, which comes pre-installed on this ROM, takes photos that are just as good as the original LG G2 camera.
Requirements to keep in mind to update the LG G2 to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop through AICP
The requirements are the same as always; however, you'll need to start with Android KitKat, Jelly Bean, or another CM-based ROM . Those starting with a stock Android Lollipop version will first need to follow the advice in this post to properly update to an AOSP Lollipop ROM.
Those of you on the official Lollipop or a custom ROM based on the official LG stock ROM, from the link above which takes you to a tutorial explaining how to revert to KitKat or Jelly Bean , will need to download the attached ZIP file, extract it, and inside you'll find the Jelly Bean Bootloader ZIP and the KitKat Modem ZIP . These two files are what you'll need to flash first from TWRP Recovery , as explained in the tutorial, before you can flash the AICP ROM ZIP following the instructions below.
The other requirements would be the following:
- Have a LG G2 international model D802.
- Root and Recovery modified to its latest version available.
- Nandroid Backup of our entire system in case the flies.
- Backup applications and data since in the flashing process we will do a Hard Reset.
- USB debugging enabled from developer settings.
- Battery charged 100 x 100.
- Follow all the steps that I explain here to the letter.
Required files
The necessary files are limited to the latest nightly build, which you can download directly from this link, as well as the Gapps for Android 5.1.1 Lollipop , which you can download from here . By the way, the newest version of AICP Nightly is the one shown at the top of the official download page.
Once downloaded, restart the LG G2 in Recovery Mode and follow the instructions to the letter without skipping any steps.
How to update LG G2 to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop using AICP
From the modified Recovery , we will follow these steps:
- We enter the Wipe option and make all the Wipes available except for the Internal SDcard.
- We flash the Jelly Beam Bootloader. This only in case of being on a stock-based version of Android Lollipop.
- We flash the Kit Kat Modem. This only in case of being on a stock-based version of Android Lollipop.
- We flash the Zip of the AICP Rom.
- We flash the Zip of the Gapps Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
- Wipe Dalvik and cache.
- Reboot System now.
This will start the LG G2 on Android 5.1.1 where we can see the AICP boot animation , which is a truly spectacular boot animation.
