How to activate the 960fps wide-angle slow motion mode for 4K video on the OnePlus 7T

OnePlus 7T

To bolster the OnePlus 7T , the Chinese manufacturer has released a new software update in one of its most recent moves. Just a few hours ago, according to a report from a Chinese user posted on Reddit , the new OTA update for the device began rolling out in China. This means its expansion has begun and will soon extend globally, as is typical with the brand's updates.

Before that happens - if it isn't already happening and you may have already received it on your unit in your respective country - we explain how to activate two of the most important new features that come to this terminal with the new firmware package, which are the super slow motion camera mode at 960 fps and the wide-angle camera for 4K video , two features that the OnePlus 7T did not previously boast.

So you can activate the super slow motion mode at 960 fps and the wide angle camera for 4K video on the OnePlus 7T

The OnePlus 7T continues to be ranked today as one of the best high-performance smartphones. Being powered by the Snapdragon 855 Plus, it cannot be considered an obsolete mobile, quite the opposite, since this high-end chipset still has a lot of life ahead of it as it is one of the best performing.

Despite its importance and reputation in the high-end market, the OnePlus 7T lacked the 960fps super slow-motion camera mode and the 4K wide-angle camera found in the OnePlus 7T —two features now commonplace in new premium devices. However, this has been remedied with the latest update, which arrived with the third beta of OxygenOS, released in a series of three by the company recently, with the most recent rollout occurring last week.

These two features were not mentioned in the changelog of the most recent OxygenOS Beta update for the OnePlus 7T, so they went unnoticed.

The curious thing is that, as the Gizmochina website points out, the OnePlus 7T's 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor doesn't support 960fps slow-motion recording. Therefore, the phone's feature might be using some kind of interpolation method to double the number of frames per second. This means that ultra-slow-motion video recording on this phone may not be as smooth as on other premium smartphones. We'll also explain how to enable it on OnePlus 7T models that already have it.

Slow motion at 960fps of the OnePlus 7T

960fps recording mode added on OnePlus 7T

To record in super slow motion at 960 fps, you don't need to do much. This option is simply added to the two already implemented from the start: HD 720p at 480 fps and FullHD 1080p at 240 fps. Therefore, all you need to do is open the camera app and expand the camera options from the bottom up , where you'll find the Slow Motion settings. There, select HD 720p at 960 fps, which is the new mode included in this recent update.

In the video options that appear in the same extended menu, the recording mode at 4K resolution at 30 fps with the wide-angle sensor also appears, thanks to the new version of ROM. You only have to select it to later start a recording of such quality. Previously, it was only possible to record with the wide angle at FullHD resolution on this device, although at first it was simply not possible to use that lens for recording, which changed with the arrival of Android 10 on the phone.

The usual: we recommend having the respective smartphone connected to a stable and high-speed Wi-Fi network to download and then install the new beta firmware package, in order to avoid unwanted consumption of the provider's data package. It is also vitally important to have a good battery level to avoid any possible inconvenience during the installation process.

Keep in mind that not all OnePlus 7T devices have received this update yet. As we suggested at the beginning, it's possible that it will be rolled out gradually, either by region, by device, or due to other factors. These types of firmware updates aren't usually released all at once globally, but rather in stages. Therefore, it could take a few days or weeks before it reaches your model. However, its arrival worldwide is guaranteed, whether in its current beta form or as a final version without any errors.
