Huawei recently announced a beta version of HarmonyOS 4 for 28 devices, including the Mate 60 series. This new version promises easier operation, a pure and secure operating system, and a responsive device that runs efficiently. But what has surprised HarmonyOS users is that it's once again possible to download Google apps.
The return of Google apps with HarmonyOS 4
Huawei has developed its own operating system called HarmonyOS. With this move it became the third global contender after Android and iOS. HarmonyOS is designed to offer a smooth and secure experience on Huawei devices, without relying on Android.
According to recent reports, the Huawei Mate 60 Pro, after receiving the HarmonyOS 4.0.0.162/4.0.0.163 update , began running Google Mobile Services. The same is reportedly happening with the Huawei Mate X5 . Google apps can now be installed and used on these Huawei devices directly from AppGallery, Huawei's official app store. This was previously impossible due to US restrictions.
To complete the installation, search for the Google Mobile Services add-ons in AppGallery and install them . After installation, you'll be able to add a Google account, receive push notifications, and run Google apps without any apparent problems.
It is possible, but with limitations
For now, this functionality is limited to the Mate60 Pro and Mate X5 models. It's unclear whether this feature will be extended to other Huawei devices or how long it will last. However, there's hope that will happen in the future. There's also speculation that Huawei might be limiting this capability to avoid potential issues with Google.
It's worth noting that this move comes as Huawei moves toward independence from the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and Google code with its upcoming HarmonyOS NEXT version . This new version will use original components in the system core, eliminating AOSP code and supporting applications specifically designed for greater efficiency.
