Google Play Services is one of the apps that we could say works in the background and is the basis for us to be able to use all those apps and services that we are used to on a daily basis on our smartphone.
Google Play Services has now received a major update, adding a number of features and improvements that should be very helpful for Android developers and users. Among these new features, Google has decided to disable Nearby Notifications due to an issue they were unable to address in time.
And Google itself has published a fairly extensive changelog showing all the important changes included in Google Play Services version 9.8. Regarding nearby notifications , they will likely be enabled in the next update.
Of all these new features, perhaps the most striking is the ability that users will now have to fill in the phone numbers associated with their account with a simple tap in those apps that use the credentials API.
Google Fit, the fitness and health app, now has a new API, Goals, which allows apps to "read" fitness goals created by users from the Google Fit app on Android devices. And while Nearby Notifications have been temporarily disabled, they've been improved with a new interface option, and hands-free actions are now supported.
Finally, we have Cast API, which has been improved with new features and enhancements, just like Firebase. We also can't forget that this new update includes bug fixes and some modifications that will improve the performance of this service, which often runs in the background to ensure everything runs smoothly.
