With the recent release of Google Chrome 41 and Google Chrome 42 beta, Google included a number of performance improvements that should result in faster page loading.
These two new features are "Script streaming" and "code cashing," and they are JavaScript techniques that should allow users not only to load pages faster by reducing the load in some cases by up to 10% , but also decrease battery consumption by 40%.
Script Streaming in Chrome 41
The first feature will improve the analysis of JavaScript files . Under the old method, Chrome had to wait while the entire script was downloaded before the analysis process could begin. This method did not optimize CPU usage during the download.
In Chrome version 41, scripts are analyzed in separate events as they begin to be downloaded, meaning this will take a few milliseconds and users will see a 10% improvement in page load time. Google mentions that this improvement will be more noticeable on slow connections like 3G.
Code Caching in Chrome 42 beta
This second feature will help improve loading times on pages that users frequently visit . Previously, Google's V8 engine compiled a web page's JavaScript every time a user visited it. Once the user left the page, the compiled code was discarded.
Chrome beta version 42 will now use an advanced technique that stores a copy of the compiled page locally on the user's device, allowing it to bypass the process of downloading, parsing, and compiling it again. By eliminating these steps, accessing a frequently visited page saves up to 40% of compilation time . Google also mentions that this will save battery life.
