Maps is another app that has seen significant improvements lately, although most of them are small details that arrive in new versions. These small details will translate into an improved user experience over a few months. Among these improvements are speed limit signs and calendar events, plus another very interesting new feature.
You can now add a shortcut to your home screen to display traffic alerts such as congestion, accidents, or anything else that might slow you down. This new feature has been added in the latest beta version of Google Maps for Android, and with a quick tap, you'll have all the information about the road conditions and surrounding areas.
To achieve the same result, you would have to open Google Maps, look at the directions, and tap "nearby" to see traffic. But with the shortcut, you can access all those results immediately.
Adding this shortcut is quite simple, as you can add it from the widget selector of your launcher, or add it directly from the Maps app in the nearby traffic section.
