Gift sets (IV): "Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation"

Continuing with our review of the best action games (arcade, driving and other games will come later) for our Games to Give as Gifts section for Christmas, today we're talking about Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation.

We have already told you about the next installment of the saga here and, honestly, the evolution seems more than interesting. But until the fourth iteration arrives, you can use this Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation to satisfy your appetite.

Modern Combat 3 review

The game, like NOVA 3, is a Gameloft development . And it's not just the developer that the two titles share. Both are pure, unadulterated first-person shooters . However, while NOVA 3 is a futuristic title, MC3 presents a modern conflict, taking place in the present day.

Following in the footsteps of previous installments in terms of gameplay and the countless current FPS games in terms of plot, MC3 presents us with a joint invasion of the US by Pakistan, Korea, and Russia. In short, the well-worn trope of invasions by "terrorist" countries.

MC3 Analysis

The campaign, divided into 13 missions , is quite varied in its scenarios and situations. We won't just have the typical mission of completing a stage by eliminating all enemies in our path, but we'll also have to fulfill escort objectives, destroy certain artifacts, and more.

However, the game suffers from a very linear progression system that relies heavily on scripted sequences , placing enemies with virtually infinite respawns and zero AI in our path to hinder our progress.

The other pillar of the title is its 12-player multiplayer , which is truly balanced and complete, both in terms of modes and weaponry and map design. However, during the days I played, finding a match was somewhat difficult.

Graphically, the game is a real treat . And it's not just the overall graphical quality that stands out, but also the sheer number of vehicles, explosions, and particle effects on screen. All of this is delivered with remarkable stability.

Modern Combat 3

However, another drawback of the game, as is often the case, is the controls . While they are quite intuitive and, above all, comprehensive, the sheer number of actions available can make them somewhat imprecise at times.

In short, another shooter to add to the list of great games that, unfortunately, are somewhat marred by linearity, enemy AI, and, above all, somewhat confusing controls.
