Fitbit has globally launched its latest smartwatch, called Ionic, and it seems that it is not as excellent as many imagined, judging by the messages posted on the gadget's official forums.
It was a long time before Fitbit released a good smartwatch. The Blaze arrived in 2016, and since then almost two years have passed without seeing any news from the company.
Last year, Fitbit was one of the hottest companies in the fitness watch market, and the Blaze was one of the best products out there. However, during the time that the Fitbit Ionic lasted, many other companies released more advanced smartwatches.
Negative reviews will affect the company
The best way to determine if a device is good is visit the official forums directly. Many users have already received their Fitbit Ionic units, some before their official launch date (which was October 1, 2017), and the forums are already filling up with problems.
The truth is that all new devices have various problems. It doesn't matter if it's from Samsung, Apple or Amazon. The simple fact that such a complex device gets into the hands of thousands of people leaves at least a couple of users unlucky enough to receive faulty drives.
En general, the Fitbit Ionic seems to have the same issues that plagued the Fitbit Blaze in its early days. The most important on the list is the function to automatically sync with the mobile phone. This was one of Fitbit's most hyped features for the Ionic, but many people seem to have trouble pairing the watch with their phones.
On the other hand, users also report various issues with music syncing, which is a new function. The process appears to be a lot more complicated than it should have been, but the company told users they should give it a go until they get there.
Among other things, it also seems that a large number of older Android devices are considered not compatible with the Fitbit Ionic. A good idea would be to look first at the official website to check beforehand the compatibility of your mobile with the Ionic, but the company has not yet updated its website to add the Ionic in compatibility tables.
Fitbit support is probably jammed right now with reports of problems from users, many of whom claim they are getting the same answers almost every time, such as they need to update the firmware, disconnect and add the watch back to the smartphone, and other similar things.
Finally, the official launch date of the Fitbit Ionic fell on a Sunday, so there is still hope that the company's support service will increase its activity and number of agents throughout this week.
