Once installed, its main objective is to collect as much personal and banking data as possible, taking control of the phone and sending the obtained information to servers controlled by the attackers.

Although RuStore may seem like an unfamiliar platform to most in the West, it's widely recognized among Russian users as an alternative to Google Play and the App Store, especially in the wake of Western restrictions and sanctions. Experts have found that stolen data doesn't stay in the Firebase database for very long: Malicious actors often quickly exfiltrate relevant information and delete the rest, making it significantly difficult for victims—or authorities—to track the extent of the attack or recover details about what was stolen.
