Ceri Launcher is a new app launcher for your Android phone , and although it's in beta, it aims to breathe new life into your device. And it certainly succeeds, as its main goal is to create a different kind of experience than the one you've been used to for many years.
We're talking about the Nova Launcher type, with its status bar displaying the five typical apps, the upward swipe to open the app drawer, and those side swipes to navigate through the different home screens. Ceri Launcher aims to make you forget all of that and introduce you to a completely different interface. Let's take a look.
Generating another user experience
The most important thing in an app launcher is that it allows us to quickly navigate through all our applications, widgets, and notifications. We have a standard one, already mentioned, like "Nova Launcher" and others, but Ceri Launcher wants to take it a step further by placing apps at the heart of the home screen.
In other words, you should be aware that things change quite a bit with this launcher. First, a clock widget will appear, displaying the time , along with a series of apps with a blurred background. So far, so good. It intuitively prompts you to swipe down to scroll through all the app icons.
Scroll down and you'll find the complete list of apps. Now you might be wondering what this is all about. Simple: long-press on an app , and it will be pinned to the top. This means you can pin your favorite apps to the top of the list for quick access.
Discovering Ceri Launcher
Having understood this, we realize that the notification bar doesn't disappear completely, along with all its functions. But at the top, there's a clock widget. If you tap it, both the Settings and clock icons expand to either side. Keep in mind that this is in beta, so some features might not work as well as you'd like.
Once past this point, we tap on the settings and find some of the modifications we can make to Ceri Launcher. They are in beta, so new ones will be added as they are integrated with future updates. But you can expect to be able to change the dark mode for OLED screens, replace the search bar with Google, set the number of icons per row to four, reduce the blur on the wallpaper, or activate a performance mode.
You read about replacing your Google search with Google. Yes, it's very simple. Besides being able to use gestures to scroll through your app list , you'll also have a gesture on your watch to activate search for your apps. In other words, you can change that gesture to activate Google Search so you can access its results.
A launcher different from many others
What stands out most about Ceri Launcher, whether you like it or not, is that it offers something different from what we're used to . This very fact puts it in a very special position compared to the competition. And we're talking about a launcher that's still in beta, with plenty of room for improvement and the arrival of new features, such as the ability to change the wallpaper; although this is easy if you do it before setting it as the default with your previous launcher.
We're left wanting more, hoping they'll step up their game and bring us more customization options, since one of its shortcomings is the basic app list and the clock widget. In short, Ceri Launcher is a very lightweight launcher that aims to be something completely different from what we've seen in a long time. It's worth giving it a try. Don't miss this other launcher.
