Customization is one of Android's shining stars , being one of the reasons why it is currently the most installed mobile operating system on the planet; that operating system that is also available on the Google Pixel in its version 7.1.
While customizing your desktop with icon packs used to be a fairly simple process, it has become more complicated over time, with some launchers making it easier than others. If you find yourself in a situation where your launcher blocks you from using a particular icon pack, Awesome Icons might be the best solution.
Customize any icon of any launcher
Awesome icons is an app that allows you to change the icons in the interface , regardless of whether you have the default launcher of your smartphone's custom skin, or an alternative one that sometimes also closes the doors to this type of customization.
The only downside to Awesome Icons is that it lacks the seamless interface we'd prefer for switching between icon packs. However, it does work somewhat magically, creating a new shortcut that uses your chosen icons instead of changing the app's icon. This means that when you tap the custom icon, it becomes a shortcut to the application.
The best part is that it doesn't require root access or any other extra modifications. You launch the app and you'll see all your installed apps displayed with their respective icons. It's up to you whether you want to keep the current icons or change them to something you like better to give your Android phone's home screen a fresh look. It's also important to have an icon pack downloaded before using the app, otherwise you won't be able to customize them.
Fiddling with the app
Before going on to describe the first steps and some of the vicissitudes of this interesting app, you can access these 5 packs of modern and elegant icons that I published a few months ago in this post.
When you launch the app, you'll see the main screen listing all the apps on your Android phone. At the top, there's a tab that lets you configure the icons for each launcher. From there, you can select your preferred launcher and customize its icons.
The icon list shows the options you have to select the one you want. Besides the available icons, which will depend on the icon packs you've installed, you can upload an image or even take a photo to customize the shortcut however you like. If none appear, as happens to me with the Google Allo app, you won't have any other way to change it.
You have the option to create your own shortcut or icon for any specific app. From the editing screen, you can change the icon, the app, the shortcut name, and even the advanced option to protect the icon. This last option is available if, for whatever reason, the shortcut doesn't retain the icon you selected.
Finally, we go to the side navigation panel which allows us to download icon packs, check the ones we have installed, or get the pro version , although this is more of a contribution made to the developer of this very interesting app for Android customization.
