What is the blue verification badge in Gmail?
The blue verification badge in Gmail is a small icon that appears next to the name of senders who have verified their identity through a process called BRM (Brand Indicators for Message Identification), which stands for Message Identification Mark Indicators. This system ensures that the email you receive comes from a legitimate source and not an impostor.
This badge is similar to those we already see on social networks like Twitter. Google explains that this icon helps users identify emails from Genuine senders, such as registered companies and brands, differentiating them from possible fraudulent or phishing messages.
How does BRM work in Gmail?
The BRM system requires companies that send emails through Gmail to meet certain authentication requirements. When A shipper adopts the BRM system and verifies their identity, Gmail will display a blue badge next to their email address. If you hover over this badge, Gmail will inform you that “the sender has verified their identity and ownership of their domain.”
This verification includes both domain ownership and the match between the logo and information provided by the brand. In this way, Gmail assures recipients that the email comes from a trusted source.
Who can get the blue badge in Gmail?
The blue verification badge in Gmail is not exclusive to large corporations. This badge is available to any company or sender that meets the requirements established by Google. These are:
- Possess the domain from which emails are being sent.
- Count on a trademark and a logo that matches the sender's name in your emails.
- Comply with safety standards advanced to ensure that your emails are not vulnerable to attacks or manipulation.
This feature also applies to all Google Workspace users, both business accounts and personal Gmail accounts.
