When more than a year has passed since the Trump administration began to block Huawei's access to American technology, the Asian company hhas finally presented its own operating system, an operating system that is expected to hit the market in 2021 with the next smartphones that the company launches on the market.

During the presentation, no mention was made about whether the devices that are currently available in the market and that are making use of the EMUI 11 customization layer will have the possibility to enjoy HarmonyOS. According to a company representative to a question from Android Authority, the answer is yes.

Devices currently running EMUI 11 customization layer they may be upgraded to HarmonyOS in the future. What is not clear, is that if all devices will be updated to the new customization layer or just a selected number.

It is also not clear whether the update will be mandatory for supported devices or users will have the option to download it and not install it. Presumably, the Huawei Mate 30 and the P40 series, smartphones without Google services, will be the first to be updated in order to get the most out of them.

One of the main features that HarmonyOS offers is lintegration with other devices from the same manufacturer, an integration that is what users are looking for lately when they start betting on a company for their electronic devices.
