Huawei has launched its new version of its custom interface, EMUI 12. This has been highly anticipated lately and appears to be the global version of HarmonyOS 2.0 for the international market, while the latter will remain exclusive to China.
As expected, Huawei's EMUI 12 comes with several improvements, changes, and new features. It's projected to be a significantly more interesting version than EMUI 11 and its predecessors, and below we'll discuss everything this new firmware version has to offer. While it has just been officially announced and released, there's still no word on when it will arrive on phones via an update or what its rollout schedule will be.
New design, improved and more organized interface, improved security and higher performance: this is what EMUI 12 offers
The first thing we notice and that stands out in EMUI 12 is its new interface , which gives it a renewed, fresher and, at the same time, better organized look, with subtle changes that make a big difference, compared to what we have with EMUI 12 and other predecessor versions.
With this new firmware update from the Chinese manufacturer , the buttons are more minimalist and better organized , making them much more visually appealing. This is also thanks to the new animations, which are natural, smooth, and fluid. This makes navigating the interface a faster and more comfortable experience. Additionally, a new feature allows you to adjust the font size.
Likewise, in terms of performance, EMUI 12 offers greater speed and responsiveness, which is especially noticeable when scrolling ( swiping) on ​​web pages in the browser and, of course, navigating between applications and more, as multitasking now works better, and this is due to better management of RAM and CPU (processor).
Regarding security and privacy, Huawei hasn't been very clear about how many changes it has made in this area. However, it has briefly revealed that EMUI 12 focuses more and better on this aspect, making it more secure when unlocking the phone and, of course, pairing it with other devices such as tablets, laptops, and more. In fact, it's now possible to unlock the phone via a laptop using a pre-set password, among other features.
On another note, regarding features and applications, there's also a new development related to MeeTime, Huawei's own app for making individual and group video calls, which usually comes pre-installed on its phones and devices. Now, calls can be transferred from the phone to a TV , but only if the TV supports this function; otherwise, it's not possible.
Huawei has also significantly improved file sharing in EMUI 12 , enabling phones with this firmware version to connect better with other compatible devices, thanks to Device+, allowing them to interact more seamlessly with each other.
Which phones will get EMUI 12 first and when will they?
As we mentioned at the beginning, Huawei has not yet revealed anything about the EMUI 12 update schedule. However, the Chinese manufacturer is expected to offer the OTA update globally next month, which is September.
Of course, as expected, the update will initially roll out to a few phones gradually, before expanding to other models in different countries. Furthermore, while it's unknown which phones will receive it first, it's expected that the Huawei P50 series will be among the first to get it, or at least that's what current expectations suggest.
