Third and last installment of this test with the LG beast. In this part we are going to talk about performance that we can obtain from the terminal and "what is the use" for so much power enclosed between these two shells and a silver fence.
First thing ... Processor. The Nvidia Tegra 2 is fantastic. This phone has a awesome potential. Is able to move Full HD 1080p videos on any TV with the HDMI cable with ease astonishing. Using the internal SD that it brings, and your microSD to put multimedia contents, you will have a great player to take you wherever you want, connect to a TV with HDMI input and enjoy movies, series or even YouTube videos.
The performance in games, the truth, I have not been able to verify. Most "decent" games like Gameloft HD and EA Sports, for example, have to download data to the SD. We run into a problem. The default SD memory is internal SD. The apps the applications are downloaded to the external SD, and they conflict with the internal SD of the LG, and it returns error. There is an executable to "patch" the .apk files of the applications and be able to install them on the LG without problem. I have not succeeded. There is another option to "join" the two memories. Root is required and the phone is not mine. There is no problem, although perhaps they should make it a little easier.
La application loading / installation occurs at an impressive speed. It is capable of managing installations without being able to find out. You can put applications until the memory is full, and you can already put. The only downside to putting applications is the fuss that is prepared in the menu. The applications that the phone brought by default are sorted alphabetically on the one hand. Next, in order of installation, all the ones you enter via market or via .apk. I have not been able to change this organization that becomes a bit chaotic.
Continuing with the theme of the LG interface for this terminal, the word to define it is, simplicity. But perhaps excessive simplicity. I am in favor of a user interface like the original one for Android, or CyanogenMod's ADW for example. I don't like the transparency and stickiness of the HTC Sense too much, for example. For those in favor of a more sophisticated interface, with more animations, prettier, or more elaborate, LG's interface for this terminal will outnumber them in no time.
As to Benchmark that we can obtain in Quadrant… Amazing. The results are always between 2500-2550. Terminals with the HTC Sensation remain at around (not inconsiderable) 1800-1900, and in the case of the Galaxy S2 we would be talking about 3000 approximately. This result reflects that the bet of this terminal for the pointer hardware is very high. It is demonstrated in the ease of moving the HDMI connection, the ease of moving games (by viewed videos), the ease of loading applications ... All of this is greatly diminished by Froyo 2.2.2 that it incorporates. I'm sure when this terminal updates to Gingerbread will be much faster, more efficient and will improve the user experience.
Errors that I have found, few or none relevant. I consider the problem of games quite serious. Having to modify the .apk file in order to install the game is not a great idea. Another error that I have come across is that if you lock (using the off key) the terminal, when activating the screen with the same key, the lock screen does not appear at first; when it is turned on, the screen that was before blocking appears for a tenth of a second and then the blocking returns. I'm sure this can be solved with Gingerbread (it sounds like it was already happening to my HTC Desire). The last error that I have found does not depend on LG but it seems to me at least curious: when watching a YouTube video, turn off the screen, and the YouTube video ends, the terminal automatically locks up; to the point of having to remove the casing and pull the battery. It has happened to me with an isolated video and with a list of videos, at the end of the first one, the phone dies.
Would you recommend this terminal to my acquaintances? Yes, without a doubt. If you can afford it, buy it. If the question were: Galaxy S2, HTC Sensation or LG Optimus 2x… I would doubt very much. And you? Which one would you choose?
I leave you some videos and some images of the terminal in operation.
